The Silver Sailfish Derby, held in West Palm Beach, Florida, is the oldest running sailfish tournament in the world, established by the West Palm Beach Fishing Club in 1935. Anglers compete over two fishing days in early January with a fleet limited to 50 boats, targeting sailfish along the East Coast with the option to release catches and compete for trophies including the Louis S. Boski Outstanding Catch Award and the Mrs. Henry R. Rea Trophy. The Derby pioneered catch-and-release sailfish tournaments and developed the red release pennant, remaining a centerpiece of competitive saltwater fishing in South Florida.
