The Makaira Invitational
About this tournament
The Makaira Invitational is a new invitation-only billfish release tournament at Marina Cap Cana, on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic. The first edition runs October 22–26, 2026: registration and the captains' meeting on Thursday, three fishing days Friday through Sunday, and the awards banquet Sunday night. Lines go in at 8:00 AM and come out at 4:30 PM. Every billfish is released and video-verified, with blue marlin worth 300 points and other billfish 100. Teams fish in a Sonar or a Non-Sonar division, and optional release and gamefish jackpots cover tuna, dorado and wahoo. The 1,000-fathom curve is less than 20 miles from the marina.
